Has your Mazda check engine light come on? It’s understandable if you’re worried that your model is having SKYACTIV©-G engine problems. But don’t worry too much. In most cases, a Mazda3 check engine light isn’t a big deal. Take a moment to read our overview of what this light can mean, and if you happen to be hearing troubling SKYACTIV©-G engine noises, be sure to contact the service center at Hello Mazda of San Diego for help! We can even tow your car from a San Diego highway if necessary!

Why Is My Mazda Check Engine Light On?

If your Mazda3 check engine light goes on during your commute to National City, you may be worried that you’re having SKYACTIV©-G engine problems. In most cases, it’s not as dire. Here are just a few of the most common culprits:

  • Your SKYACTIV® Technology electrical system is having issues.
  • Your emission control system is malfunctioning.
  • Your gas tank is running on empty.
  • Your gas cap isn’t screwed tightly or has been misplaced.

Most of the issues aren’t cause for alarm, but if you’ve determined that your vehicle is fueled up and your gas tank cap is tight, make your way to our garage for an inspection when you get a moment. However, if SKYACTIV®-G engine noise is accompanying your Mazda check engine light, either head on over to our garage in San Diego or let us tow you from the shoulder of that Escondido highway.

SKYACTIV®-G Engine Tips

Every Mazda model features SKYACTIV© TECHNOLOGY, which optimizes fuel economy, all while bringing more impressive engine specs than you would expect from such affordable vehicles. That said, there are a few things that you can do to avoid SKYACTIV®-G engine problems down the road. For instance:

  • If you’ve been driving at freeway speeds or up and down hills, you’ve put a little extra stress on your engine. When you get home, let it idle for 30 seconds before killing the ignition.
  • Don’t over-rev the engine right after you’ve started your vehicle, and avoid racing altogether. These habits are especially problematic in extreme cold.
  • Keep up with the recommended oil change and oil filter intervals in your owner’s manual, and be sure to only use the recommended oils mentioned!
